Elbe River Floods
The City of Rosslau, Germany, is bordered by the Elbe River which is one of the largest rivers of Central Europe with a length of 1,096 Km and a catchment area (148,268Km) divided among four Central European Countries.
65% of the Catchment area is in Germany alone. For Decades there had been large winter and spring floods along the Elbe River.
During the 1990s there was a new dyke built closer to the city to give better protection than it previously had. Therefore Rosslau was protected by a 3.1 Km long dyke. On one flood occasion the dyke was not enough to protect Rosslau and the Big Bag Defence System was called for at short notice to be rolled out on the Flood side of the city to act as a flood barrier wall.
The City of Rosslau was very satisfied with how quickly our systems could be built to form the flood protection wall.
On this occasion, the Big Bag Defence System was put to the test once again as it protected the people and City of Rosslau, German.
